'Dusk' drawing

This was a really fun and interesting drawing to make. At the time, it was so refreshing to revisit this animal theme in my drawings. Figures and mental health has become my primary subject matter, but in my earlier works I was a lot more focused on animals. It’s felt good to return to them again.

I also just really love elephants.

The preparation for the drawing began by photographing dry ice in my hand to create the sense of smoke pouring out of the hand. I used a 3D model of an elephant to create a sense of realism.

In terms of the actual drawing, the smoke pooling out of the hand was definitely a challenge. What became really important was maintaining clean outlines and keeping the background crisp and white.
