El chico salvavidas

En este proyecto personal, me propuse el desafío de crear una portada altamente visual para un libro.

Para lograrlo, me inspiré en las portadas de la editorial Blackie Books, conocidas por su meticulosa edición y el destacado uso de tipografía e ilustración.

Busqué experimentar con una paleta de colores llamativa y audaz, tomando como referencia el estilo distintivo del ilustrador David de las Heras, quien suele emplear una gama cromática muy reconocible.

In this personal project, I set myself the challenge of creating a highly visual book cover.

To achieve this, I was inspired by the covers of Blackie Books, known for their meticulous editing and outstanding use of typography and illustration.

I sought to experiment with a bold and striking color palette, referencing the distinctive style of illustrator David de las Heras, who often employs a recognizable chromatic range.

Para darle un toque único al título "El chico salvavidas", opté por una representación visual que va más allá de lo convencional. En la ilustración, fusioné elementos contrastantes: un flotador evocando el verano y el calor, junto con un jersey, gorro y abrigo que sugieren el frío del invierno. Esta combinación resalta la capacidad del personaje para adaptarse a cualquier situación.

To give a unique touch to the title "The Lifeguard Boy," I opted for a visual representation that goes beyond the conventional. In the illustration, I fused contrasting elements: a float evoking summer and warmth, along with a sweater, hat, and coat, suggesting the cold of winter. This combination highlights the character's ability to adapt to any situation.

En primer lugar, organicé los elementos de la ilustración y establecí la paleta de colores.

Luego, procedí a trabajar en los primeros detalles del rostro. Personalmente, prefiero comenzar definiendo la nariz y, especialmente, los ojos, ya que son elementos fundamentales que suelo destacar en todas mis ilustraciones. Desde el principio, tiendo a darles bastante detalle, ya que son ellos los que realmente hacen que la ilustración cobre vida desde los primeros trazos.

First, I organized the illustration elements and established the color palette.

Then, I proceeded to work on the first details of the face. I prefer to start by defining the nose and, especially, the eyes, as they are fundamental elements that I tend to highlight in all my illustrations. I tend to give them a lot of detail from the beginning, as they make the illustration come alive from the very first strokes.

Después de completar todos los elementos, opté por modificar algunos colores, como el fondo o el flotador, con el fin de generar una imagen que tuviera un mayor impacto visual.

Para concluir, añadí el título utilizando una tipografía similar a la que se emplea en los libros de la editorial Blackie Books.
