Broken But Shinning

Desde bien joven sentí una pasión por los coches, cuando era un niño mi padre me regalo un pequeño juguete de lo que era un Lamborghini Countach, sentí que era algo increíble el hecho de que las puertas se abriesen hacia arriba y rápidamente me enamore de estos detalles. Cuando fui creciendo mi pasión se fue desarrollando a medida que toda la cultura de los coches iba creciendo. Cuando ya era un poco mas mayor empece a dibujar coches tuning para una revista en la que los mejores dibujos los ponían en la ultima pagina, hasta que de repente me publicaron algunos. Pase muchos años enamorado de esta cultura hasta que un día empece a pintarlos, pero siempre tomaba como referencia fotos ajenas que encontraba en internet o en magacines, hasta que decidí empezar a hacerlas yo, ya que mi padre y mis abuelos me introdujeron en la fotografía.

Fue así como después de muchos años pintando y viajando surgió el proyecto de darle vida a mis coches, así que viaje a Miami para hacer mis sueńos realidad y poder conducir mis propios autos para el art Basel 2022.

Fue todo un éxito y decidí quedarme una temporada en New York y desconectar un poco pasando un invierno frio y solitario, acompañado de la Olympus mju que me regalo mi amigo, todo parecía tranquilo hasta que paseando por Canal st mis ojos se quedaron completamente paralizados en algo que no había visto nunca antes con tanta complicidad, se trataba de un auto completamente accidentado aparcado en mitad de la acera, lo que para muchos parecía algo insignificante o tal vez difícil de mirar, para mi era toda una obra maestra, con todo el respeto hacia las personas involucradas. Mi trabajo siempre trato de enfocar este tipo de conceptos y por fin lo tenia delante mio. Así que decidí tomarle varias fotos, y seguí caminando impactado por lo que acaba de ver.

Bajando la calle encontré otro, y luego otro, y así me llevo los días fríos del invierno con el único placer de encontrar mas y mas coches completamente destrozados. Son piezas completamente únicas ya que ninguno se parece a el otro. Lo que empezó como un hobby para distraerme acabo siendo una rutina diaria en búsqueda de los coches mas destartalados de Nueva York.

Me llamaba mucho la atención que alguno de estos coches estaban bastante jodidos pero todavía funcionaban, ya que por lo que entendí en Nueva York es bastante común que la gente se choque y sigan caminando por el loco estilo de vida rápido que predomina en la ciudad.

Un día después de varias semanas vagando por la ciudad decidí volver a el punto de partida donde todo comenzó, estaba lloviendo y era de noche y me encontré con la joya que me había conducido a todo esto, y de pronto quise un homenaje espontáneo y fugaz con lo que había plantado una gran semilla en mi cabeza, así que decidí ponerle unas flores en señal de respeto con algo que me aportado mucho.

Broken but shinning, la autentica sabiduría que las calles me habían enseñado, no importa lo jodido que estes si todavía sigues brillando.

From a young age, I felt a passion for cars. When I was a child, my father gifted me a small toy, a Lamborghini Countach. I found it incredible that the doors opened upward, and I quickly fell in love with these details. As I grew, my passion evolved as car culture itself grew. When I got older, I began to draw tuning cars for a magazine where the best drawings were featured on the last page until suddenly, some of mine were published. I spent many years in love with this culture until, one day, I began painting them. However, I always referenced photos from the internet or magazines until I decided to start taking my own, thanks to my father and grandparents introducing me to photography.

Thus, after many years of painting and traveling, the project to bring my cars to life emerged. I traveled to Miami to make my dreams come true and drive my cars for Art Basel 2022.

It was a huge success, and I decided to spend time in New York to unwind, enduring a cold and solitary winter accompanied by the Olympus mju my friend gifted me. Everything seemed calm until, walking along Canal Street, my eyes were fixed entirely on something I had never seen before with such complicity: a wholly wrecked car parked in the middle of the sidewalk. While many might find it insignificant or hard to look at, to me, it was a masterpiece, with all due respect to the people involved. My work always sought to focus on such concepts, and finally, it was right in front of me. I decided to take several photos and continued walking, profoundly impacted by what I had just witnessed.

Walking down the street, I found another, and then another, spending the cold winter days with the sole pleasure of discovering more and more wholly wrecked cars. They are unique pieces since no two are alike. What started as a hobby to distract me became a daily routine, searching for the most run-down cars in New York.

It struck me that some of these cars were pretty beaten up but still functional. From what I gathered, in New York, it's pretty standard for people to have collisions and keep going, given the fast-paced lifestyle predominant in the city.

One day, after wandering the city for several weeks, I returned to the starting point where it all began. It was raining and night, and I found the gem that had led me to all this. Suddenly, I wanted to pay a brief, spontaneous tribute to what had planted a significant seed in my mind. I placed flowers on it to show respect for something that had given me so much.

Broken but shining – the authentic wisdom the streets had taught me. It doesn't matter how broken you are if you still shine brightly.
