This monster is a personification of depression, they are leech-like in nature, relying on a human host to survive. They latch on and suck all of the hosts energy to feed themselves and appear large and intimidating. The tentacles lash out and attempt to drag in others, "misery loves company" and their rows of sharp teeth lash out at any who attempt to come between them and their host.
The world it is set in, is fantastical, set within the mindscape. It is a place where reality is distorted and magic is possible, similar to a dream, things don't always make sense but they are grounded by the knowledge of the dreamer, which in this case is a knowledge of the rules of earth.
I was really happy with the process up until the last part, where I felt that the lighting/rendering stage caused the image to become flat and lose a lot of details. If you ever read this Even I would love to ask any recommendations you have for me to improve my painting skills so that the painting stage enhances the character instead of killing it. Thanks for looking!
