PlanStarting the background weaving. Beginning to define the shapes. Choosing the color pallet. The Ryan knots are complete. Back side of the Ryan knot shapes.
Beautifully done!! Thanks so much for sharing the photos of your progress for us all to see.
If you secured your rya knots on the back, you could trim your raised shapes even shorter if you wanted!
I do need to trim shorter in the future and also leave more space between shapes. I was trying to practice as many shapes (“snacks”) as I could on the background. I also used mostly worsted weight yarn as that is what I had on hand. Think some smaller weights would have helped keep the shapes from overflowing their spaces so much. I will have to work on all of this the next time.

I'm glad you like the way it looks trimmed shorter!
It's true that using thinner yarns for the shapes does help for keeping the shapes in place without overflowing too much. I find that it's also important to use a good strong warp fibre and to weave the flat background very densely so that it's a solid base to support the shapes.
You're doing great :) thanks again for sharing so much of your project in the forum!

@allyrous I took your advice and trimmed the project shapes much shorter. It looks much better.
