Hi all, this is my journey through this lesson to create my final project :
- [*]
For the composition, I wanted to create something with triangles, (from the same base, all rising to the top, it made a lot of sense for me)
Then I added some circle and square for the sake of rhythm and diversity !
- [*]
After that, I imagined characters based on the shape and composition, I tried to make big, medium, and small sized elements as recommended in the lesson.
I also added a flag at the top; I drew one in a previous exercise, and I liked the dynamic of this floating element ! Also, all people under the same flag represents a united community very well.
- [*]
Then I drew it on tablet to make it more clear, and aligned with the composition.
- [*]
The drawing was imported in illustrator and I started to vectorize it.
- [*]
I looked for some colors on the way.
- [*]
And as I colorized the vector file, tried a few different colors until I was satisfied.
- [*]
I realized the drawing was to heavy with the colors, and I told myself I needed to simplify the composition to make it "breath" a bit better ! Also, made a few changes to design, and colors.
- [*]
And finally, I imported it on photoshop to add shadings, and I got the final result.
Thanks a lot for this lesson, this journey had been very helpful, I learned a lot, and got plenty of useful tips ! I will go on, continue on this way and try to improve again and again, and maybe import this character and illustration style in some animation later as I am a former motion designer. Thank you again, I am glad I made it ! I hope you guys will like this, can't wait to see what you all created !
Cheers <3

Clement, thank you for sharing, this is amusing project process and fabolous illustration! I can really feel the spirit of your community. Composition works very good, I love how you mixed small and large details. Also all kind of stripes create very nice rhythm. I can suggest to use more bold textures, maybe dry media brushes, I feel for your expressive style will work very well! And, of course, I would love to see your characters in motion!
Thank you for taking this course and sharing your experience and result! I'm very glad you liked it!
Hi,
Thank you so much for your feed back ! It is really helpful and much appreciated !
I feel the "bold" texture, I'll work on that. I'm happy the composition works well, it was in my opinion the most difficult part of the process to be satisfied with !
I made a few changes again, to make it feel even more like my city, Nantes. I'll publish it soon on my instagram or maybe behance.
Thank you again for the course !
Cheers
Your project is really wonderful! Without even reading your notes, I really appreciated your ability to hone in on the most important visual aspects of your illustration and remove the distractions of having too many wonderful things to look at in the same piece. It has so much movement and interest with the colors and textures chosen. After reading through your process and seeing the different iterations of the design as you moved through the projects, your methods crystallized vividly in your final piece. This looks like I course I'd like to take.
