This book was really about space management and page legibility. There was a lot of text that had to happen in a very specific sequence on each spread. I therefore treated each spread like a montage or a collage of moments that allowed for the same character to appear in multiple spots on the same pages.
Also based on the scale of the main character i had to think of ways to make sure we understood that setting without having the character appear as minuscule on the spreads. Many of the shots are from a low perspective that allowed the penny to appear much bigger on the pages.
A Penny’s Worth
By Kimberly Wilson And Mark Hoffmann
April 19, 2022 from Page Street Kids
ISBN: 978-1645674689
Pennies, worthless? Non-cents!
Hot off the minting press, Penny feels like a million bucks. But as other coins and bills are spent while she sits forgotten, she begins to doubt her value. She is too small to slot-surf with Quarter. Even penny candy sells for a dime! Refusing to be short-changed, she sets out to find her purpose at any cost.
Readers will laugh at a wealth of money puns, learn a basic lesson on US currency, and discover that self-worth is truly priceless.
“Combining a dash of math with buckets of good humor, this book is certainly like money in the bank.” —Kirkus Reviews
"[...] This tribute to what is, the author notes, still our country’s most minted coin offers a perfect opportunity to discuss the difference between mere purchasing power and real value." —Booklist
