WOOD FAUNA
Wood carving and carpentry traditions thrived in Mexico during the 17th and 18th centuries, when altars, benches, statues and doors were finely crafted in wood. Even though this craft is falling into disuse, by walking the streets of San Miguel de Allende we ran into Don Javier, who still practices this art. Together we started making our own wild wooden creations inspired by the figures and symbols of novohispanic baroque. During the last year we have been creating zoomorphic wood objects like benches, coffee tables and even music instruments, all inspired by the Mexican wildlife with vivid colors and hand-carved textures.
