For most of the sketchbook exercises I used brush pens: a black brush pen, some opaque paint brush pens, and some watercolor style translucent brush pens in really vibrant primary colors. I've included some examples of the pages I liked.
For my final project I developed an illustration based on Betta fish, inspired from a sketch in my sketchbook in black ink. I used colorful brush pens to interpret the fish a few times, keeping a loose free style to suggest movement in the water. I picked my two favorite fish and scanned them into photoshop, arranging them in a composition swimming around each other. The final illustration is digital, but based closely on my freehand drawing. Just for fun I uploaded the illustration to Redbubble and admired how it might look on a t-shirt or handbag!
This was a fantastic course, thank you so much Sorie Kim! The techniques really helped me work on my observation skills, and also on how to overcome hesitation when drawing from observation or from imagination.
