It’s a 10-color silkscreen AMP of Akira Kurosawa’s Kagemusha for Ink Paper Auteur Cinema Group. The tale of a thief who had to impersonate a dying warlord and eventually lived as a full-time double when the warlord died. The haunting part of this movie is the transition of the thief’s mental stability from being the norm to being crazed in the end. It was such a chilling story.
This piece was accepted to the Society of Illustrators Annual Show.
The chosen idea was about reflection. Living in between reality and a delusion started torturing the thief, and he began to lose his mind. Normally, I would go with a darker and muted color palette when it comes to creating a psychological weight, but the client wanted to go with a psychedelic tone – rich and colorful. So what would be other ways to express a character's mental disorientation? Abstract shapes! I really enjoyed filling the background with shapes, shapes, and shapes!
