You saw my creative process during the course (using guidelines, adding weight, etc.). Now here are the finalized sketches!

Be sure to share yours to the forum!

You don't have to ink or color your pieces for your final project, but I do suggest you try and experiment when you have time. You might end up loving the process. :)

I personally love pencil sketches – it really feels handmade when you can see the graphite pencil markings on the page.

From the Unit 3: Creating Compositions video

One of the important things to do as a lettering artist is to critique your own work.

In hindsight, I should've thickened the line weight in "Better Letters" to match "Learn." The top half of the page feels heavier than the bottom, and the bottom text is what we initially wanted to stand out!

Protip: Stepping away from your piece and squinting your eyes can help you notice smaller details to adjust.

Catching little details like this are what will help you elevate your lettering pieces. :)

I used this sketchbook version as a starting point and ended up finishing the colored piece on my iPad. It's okay to switch gears if you want! Remember that your sketchbook is a place for ideation and inspiration – use it however you see fit. :)
