As a result of the -ongoing-- archaeological studies carried out in Şanlıurfa, the city's 12,000-year history has been reached. "Urfa Man", the oldest statue in the world, and "Göbeklitepe", the oldest known temple and the first trace of settled life, are important archaeological heritages for all humanity.
Tılfındır Hill and its surroundings, in the north of Balıklıgöl, is the first place where the city was founded and the settlement date is based on the Neolithic period. In the historical process, the city has been seen as the center of many civilizations and beliefs. In addition, the fact that one of the oldest universities in the world was established in Harran in the 10th century shows the first traces of education in this region. Today, Şanlıurfa continues its potential to become a Museum City and welcomes visitors from all over the world. The city has the largest irrigable agricultural land in Turkey in the east and southeast.
The project area -Kızılay Square - is located on the border of the city, which was surrounded by walls for defensive purposes during the Seleucid Period. Sarayönü Caddesi, which has a direct relationship with Kızılay Square, is the transportation and trade backbone of Şanlıurfa in the north-south direction.
