Mahala Magazine is a new editorial project dedicated to documentary photography, born in Sarajevo in February 2021 as a result of a two-week workshop on photojournalism with Italian photojournalist Enrico Dagnino, one of the leading photographers for the French magazine “Paris Match.”
A team of dedicated emerging professionals and students of photography from BiH, France, and the United States collected seven amazing stories about Sarajevo and documented their findings with great pictures taken with disposable analog cameras.

Now, coming to the technical explanation. Mahala's design strongly leans on the design of "Paris Match", because the chief editor used to work for them in the field of photojournalism, and I wanted to take at least one part of it.
The part you can refer most to the magazines is the strong red line which is even on the logo of the magazine and it spreads all through the magazine.
As for the font goest, the initial idea was to use different fonts for every story featured in the magazine (only the headlines). The main font is Raleway,
Raleway is an elegant sans-serif typeface family.
By the time of the third issue, we used the same font with different variations in terms of boldness.
The magazine mainly contains pictures and therefore I didn't use any grids cause the text isn't heavy in terms of seriousness. It's a nice Sunday read to help you relax the mind.

Mahala Magazine produces three issues by far and has established itself as the number one alternative magazine in the country. It is read by locals and tourists as well as the Bosnian diaspora, who want to see Bosnia from a little different angle.
All three issues are available on the KUMA Int web page as a free download.
