My project in Naturalist Bird Illustration with Watercolors course

For my project I chose the endangered, tiny and elusive Mallee Emu-wren using a photograph by Dave Wetherall as reference. The Mallee Emu-wren is only 15 -16.5 cm in size including the tail which measures 1.5 times the length of the body. I used a background wash indicating it's spinifex habitat so this little bird would not look lost on the white paper. Painted on 20x25cm cold presses Arches.
