I use photo references with the lighting and in some cases it is revealed to me and I do not get what I want, I take colors from photos that have the tones that I like, but I also work in phases: first I apply the basic shapes in neutral tones but now marking where the light is coming from and then trying to mark the high intensity areas of the light when I start to define the details.
