I wanted to explore geometric patterns applied to a portrait in this new project.
For this, I looked for references and made the portrait with the Procreate application on an iPad; then, I printed it on transfer paper and stamped it to a fabric using heat using a standard iron that I have at home.
______________________________________________________________

I used the materials: iron, frame, fabric, scissors, threads, and embroidery needle no. 7-9.
Batista is the fabric with which I get a better result in this type of work. It is a 100% cotton fabric, soft and with enough body to withstand the iron temperature and then the embroidery.
The threads are mouliné. I love them because they come with six strands and offer a great variety in the results; I can divide them and use one, two, or three and obtain different thicknesses with the stitches.
Regarding the scissors, it is generally perfect to have small scissors like the one shown in the picture because I have more precision to cut the threads and more giant scissors that are well-sharpened, especially for the fabric.

As the challenge I set myself was to generate a geometric pattern, I automatically thought of the 60s/70s patterns to look for inspiration. Looking for references is critical in the creative process because you can take many resources and re-signify them into something new.
Here are some images I found very interesting to take as a starting point: the way triangles and trapezoids are formed within each square differentiated by color was one of the resources I decided to implement.
.....
Once I define the resources I will implement, I start drawing and playing around, deciding on the fly, doing and undoing.
Another essential part is the choice of the color palette: this is also decided at this point. I make the colors in a separate layer to always resort to them when embroidering.
Sometimes, as in this case, I make conscious decisions about the embroidery stitches I will use later. For this, I recreate the texture of the stitches in the portrait without so much detail or complexity.
I leave you a video where you can see this process in better detail.
.....
The transfer paper that allows me to obtain the result as "drawn on the fabric" is the transfer paper for clear fabric. Everything white on this paper, once printed on the fabric, will be transparent.
.....
Already stamped on the fabric, I place it, tighten it in the hoop, and let's embroider!
Here are some of the stitches I used. I generally like to use various stitches and play with directions, thicknesses, and colors.
I added some beads to the neck and hair area for more texture.

Here are some more images of the final portrait. It's a process that I love since it unites different disciplines, and the results always surprise me :)
What did you think?
I look forward to your comments!

This is one of my favorites!! Is beautiful. I have searched here, in Spain for cambric fabric as you say but it is very transparent, I have also bought another cotton fabric, although I don't know if it will give the same result when transferring the image?

Teacher Plus@bertaveredas Hello! Thank you very much!!
Look, I would tell you to print several small drawings on a transfer paper and to do ironing tests on the fabric, or on different fabrics that you like, since the results depend a lot on the quality of the paper and the fabric. You will always get better results on flat (meaning they don't stretch) and close weft (the construction of the fabric) fabrics. So fabrics such as canvas, for example, do not usually give good results since the weft is more open.
I advise you that if you found a fabric similar to cambric, do the tests with small prints and different ironing times!!

@yjilioff Thank you very much! I will do so..
I don't have a printer at home and I draw by hand.
Before transferring the drawing to the fabric, do I have to scan the drawing and turn the drawing over with some Internet application?
I am super motivated with the course!!
