To kick off this project I started with a vague idea, being a spirit medium who's not the best at their job, and started getting silhouettes down for my main character, Finley, and the two supporting characters, Edmund and Nia.
I slowly started to flesh each out and added some colors and effects to make them pop more. I tried to stay true to the time periods the two supporting characters were from, Edmund being from the Victorian Era in England, and Nia being stemmed more from the 1920s in America, and also when Native American children were sent to boarding schools (Late 19th century.) There was lots of research and looking up clothing, which was super helpful in the long run.
After fleshing them out I moved onto the expressions and poses. These were a bit tricky as I always struggled with poses and faces and how far to push them. Since Finley is described more as a "tired millennial" I tried to make her faces and poses more on the casual side with a few exceptions. After some guidance from Lauren, I was able to nail them down to the best of my ability and learned a lot along the way. (I also recently got myself a phone stand so I can take better reference photos, haha!)
Overall, this course was IMMENSELY helpful and gained so much from it. For so long I felt stuck on turnarounds, poses, and pushing my drawings, where now I feel confident in my abilities. So many thanks and can't wait to put this in my portfolio and make more!
