RIE TAKEDA
RIE TAKEDA
Teacher

Rie Takeda is an artist and professional calligrapher who was trained in Japan by her grandmother, a distinguished Gayu calligrapher. Her style, Neo-Japanism, blends classic and contemporary elements of Japanese culture. She has developed a method that teaches students how to concentrate on their own Qi (vital energy) flow and apply it to paper with brush and ink. In this Live, she shows you how to prepare your mind and your materials and paint a shodo symbol.

To follow along, all you will need is:

Water-based black ink, gouache or watercolor will do
A calligraphy or watercolor brush, the bigger and longer, the better
Paper, preferably fine calligraphy paper, but standard drawing paper will do
