## Requirements and materials

You won't need any prior knowledge, however, you will need to be careful and focused when using the following woodworking tools: you will need a Sloyd carving knife or similar, a hollowed-out or hook knife, a small axe, and a saw.

### Introduction

In this unit you will know who I am and my relationship with woodworking. I will tell you about my main influences and motivations and I will present the object that we will learn to carve.

### Wood

In this unit I will talk about wood and its characteristics. You will learn how to identify the appropriate wood for this type of carving and you will understand basic concepts of its structure to carve it easily.

### Tools

In this unit I will tell you about the tools that we will use. We will also see the most common techniques for each one and some recommendations on care and sharpening.

### Design

In this unit we will talk about key premises to design a spoon, the different typologies that exist and how we can draw them.

### The project: a spoon

In this unit we will carve a spoon from start to finish. From wood preparation to ax cuts and carving with knives.
