Unlike with comics, it's not common practice to stop and think about who created all the fantastic characters we come across in children's books. Illustrator Patricio Betteo hadn't asked the question either until he started to professionally illustrate in this field. Throughout a long career in illustration, his characters have appeared in books, magazines, comic strips, graphic novels, and even video games.

In this course, Patricio Betteo teaches you to create characters, from the first sketches in pencil to the final edits in Adobe Photoshop. Although most of the techniques taught during the course are manual, you can also follow the course using digital tools if you prefer.

## Content

### Hello

Welcome to this course, I'm glad to know you're here.

In principle, here is a presentation. A brief account of my story in the graph. I also share some of my sources of inspiration as a child (my first astonishment with Quino's "white" humor and Mad's satire) and also some of my visual fuel from now, decades later.

### Head

We start at the top. Head; where we find the first identity of a character is no small thing! Therefore, we must first familiarize ourselves with the basic forms and also find the three-dimensionality from simple visual divisions. This will be very important to be able to locate the features ... and inject expressions into our faces. Zero botox

### The body

What connects the head to the ground! Postures, statures and different anatomies define the variety in our catalog.

### Characters!

In this unit I will give you five valuable tips to apply to the creation of a character. I will present you with a great list of ideas (also called _“The Magnificent List”_ ) and I will tell you about my personal system to document me. Finally, we will combine everything in a final sketch of our _line up._

### Line and color

A unit where we tune, finish and color. I take you step by step, starting with the clean drawing and ending in the last touches of color in our _line up._
