### Introduction

Hi! My name is Lucy Fleming and I'm an author and illustrator of children's picture books. Welcome to this Domestika course and thanks for joining me!

In this first unit, I will introduce myself and tell you about my journey in the field of illustration as well as my approach to creating digital artwork. I will also talk about my main sources of inspiration and how I get my creativity flowing.

### An Introduction to Procreate: Prepping for Your Painting

In this unit, you will prepare for the course project: an illustration digitally painted in Procreate, for which you will be rethinking a classic story and learning how to put your own spin on it.

So let us first go through the basics of setting up the canvas in the Procreate app. I will also share ¡some useful tools and resources to find references and inspiration for your illustration.

### Designing the Illustration and Learning Self-Critique

In this unit, we will begin designing and planning the painting. We will go through the process, starting with our rough ideas, and I will talk more about composition. I will discuss why some of my designs are stronger than others and how you, too, can assess and critique your work as you go.

### The Finishing Flourishes

The painting is almost finished—it's time for my last reflections. We will double-check to make sure there is nothing missing, and I will show you how I edit the colors and get the image ready to share.
