“To finish with the general shape of our character, I'm going to paint the character’s clothing. The "hard work" of capturing the skin and the hair might be done, but we still need to paint the clothing convincingly so that our whole painting is cohesive. Although there is a lot of colour on the blouse, I'll start by thinking of it as being purely on a grey scale so I can concentrate on light and shadow. To help me do that, I'll convert my reference to black and white.”
