Learn to interpret literary scripts in a visual way
Pablo Buratti - illustrator and conceptual artist specialized in Storyboard who has worked with film directors such as Pedro Almodóvar, Álex de la Iglesia or JA Bayona - will teach you how to develop a storyboard as if it were a professional assignment.
You will see the similarities and differences that exist when drawing for a feature film or for an advertisement, you will learn to interpret the literary script in a visual way and you will know the essential aspects of the cinematographic language (the framing, the camera movements, the action , how we see through a lens and the assembly).
All this, very simply because a storyboard must express each of these elements in a simple way.
What's included in this course?
You will begin by getting to know Pablo Buratti's work better in film and advertising. You will discover how he has become specialized in illustration of storyboards and the references that inspire him within the comic world and the audiovisual industry.
Next, you will discover what a storyboard is, how it was born and its different applications. You will also know how to differentiate it from other visual resources such as the shooting board or the animatic.
From a given literary script, you will know its process of breakdown. You will define the different vignettes that will make up the graphic script that will serve as reference when filming each shot and you will discover the aspects that add drama and expressiveness to the image such as the frame, the location of the camera and its angulations, the movement, the optics and axes.
At the end of the course, you will create a technical script and a storyboard with specifications about locations, characters and situations for a professional shoot.
What is this course project about?
From the script of a scene, you will apply the concepts learned to make a storyboard of no more than 20 cartoons.
Pablo will give you the necessary indications as a Director to mark the frames, the action of characters and camera movements but you should bear in mind that, although it is always important to stick to the script, it is also important that the artist knows how to propose and contribute his own look so take the opportunity to focus your ideas well!
Who is it aimed at?
This course is aimed at anyone who enjoys drawing as well as film and advertising. To professional cartoonists or on their way to becoming one, who seek within audiovisual production a source of inspiration as well as a place to direct their talent. Also to any film enthusiast, interested in knowing essential aspects of the cinematographic language and what role the storyboard plays in an audiovisual production.
You only need basic drawing skills. If you feel like it, you can draw by hand but if you prefer to do it digitally, a graphic tablet and the drawing software that you like will suffice.
