Turning everyday people into main characters is an interesting exercise that we can all try. It involves our curiosity, by taking a closer look at someone and analyzing what defines them, to then represent it. Illustrator and concept artist Víctor Félix Díaz, better known as Felixantos, is capable of illustrating urban characters just as they are: unique and full of personality.

In this course, he will talk you through the process of creating an urban character as a concept and what that represents. He will guide you in creating your own character, based on a narrative. He introduces the study of color and the representation of the body and face. He goes through basic techniques to draw and color your character with Adobe Photoshop.

## What is this course's project?

You will create an illustration of an urban character –or various– with style and personality, that you will then be able to present in your portfolio with a model sheet.

## Requirements and materials

You will need basic drawing skills. As for materials, you will need a computer with Adobe Photoshop software installed, and a graphics tablet to draw more fluidly.

### Introduction

In this Unit I will talk to you about how I became an illustrator / concept artist and how I currently work in this medium. Also which illustrators or artists do I get inspired by day by day.

### Light and color techniques for concept art

In this unit I will tell you how important it is to know how to build a head and a body to create the urban characters that we have in mind.

### Foundations of the urban character

In this unit I will show you examples of different illustrators who pose characters with colored backgrounds and how these backgrounds influence to give it more strength and better tell the character's personality. We will also talk about how color influences the backgrounds of each character, for that we will do studies of forms with different colors, proposing their analogous colors, their color harmonies and their accessories to have the appropriate background for each one.

### Creating an urban character

In this unit we will focus on creating an urban character by applying the exercises performed in unit 3 and then posing the entire body and its model sheet.

### Start of a great portfolio

In this unit we are going to finish the project and I will teach you how to order a technical sheet.
