Designers and anyone interested in creating pictograms.

## What is this course's project?

Design three pictograms to represent an object, action, place, etc. within a specific context. Your teacher proposes a futuristic colony on Mars. Think about three pictograms that would be useful in that setting: a landing strip for UFOs? A space elevator? A cloning machine? No entry for aliens? Give your imagination and creativity free rein!

## Requirements and materials

Basic notions of vector graphics programs (Illustrator, Freehand, InDesign, etc.) are required.

## Content

### Introduction to pictograms

In this unit I am going to explain what a pictogram is, we are going to make a brief review of the history and I will comment on some essential references in the design of pictograms as we understand it today.
You can extend this review with the material you will find in the additional resources of the lesson.

### Thinking about the pictogram

In this unit we will do the steps prior to the realization of our final pictogram. We started thinking about the idea and made a conceptual map.
It is important that before starting to work on the computer, we should be clear about what we are going to represent and what form it is going to have.

### Sketching the pictogram

In this unit we are going to start working on drawing different sketches of our project and learning to fit them in the retina.

### Designing on the computer

In this last unit we are going to go to the computer to start with the production of the pictograms.

### Retouching and Color

It is time to adjust the series of pictograms, give them some final touches and add the color.
