If you're someone who draws fashion inspiration from the past and you like exploring vintage designs, you are most likely familiar with original reference images. Whether you’re dedicated to fashion design or you work as an illustrator, having access to a great image bank is key.
Vintage Sewing Pattern Wikia is a collaborative website dedicated to documenting vintage sewing patterns from 1800 through to 1990. The free resource is packed with ideas and almost 100,000 images of different outfit designs, poses, and image compositions that will fuel your fashion nostalgia and help you rediscover the best designs from that time.

Discover Vintage Sewing Pattern Wikia
Vintage Sewing Pattern Wikia is, as its name suggests, a site of vintage sewing patterns put together in Wikia format (that is, in a collaborative way). The project was started in 1996 to allow people to search, consult, and share old fashion designs.
Among the list of garments you will find on the website, there are:
- Day dresses
- Swimsuits
- Evening dresses
- Jackets
- Coats
- Blouses
- Pants
- Costumes

In addition, the site features sellers who keep patterns in stock, reviews, and specific design and category wishlists (think cocktail dresses, wrap dresses, Peter Pan collars, and more).
Vintage Sewing Pattern Wikia only has one requirement: that the shared material is retro. Specifically, it must have been printed at least 25 years ago. This means you can find images of books and magazines from the 19th century and patterns from the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s... all the way through the 1990s.

100% vintage, guaranteed
Vintage Sewing Pattern Wikia is a free site that anyone can contribute to. However, to protect the quality of its content, it asks the community to make sure that the material they share is truly original. For this reason, only scanned or photographed images (not already in circulation in digital format) can be shared.
They also have a list of legacy image providers - including clothing firms and fashion publications - who have consented to have their now-defunct work listed on the site.
Among other requirements, the community shares a format for archiving images including required information, such as the source of the design, and asks (where possible) that uploaders use the description of the original pattern.

How to find the illustrations
To make navigating through the various designs easier, all the fashion illustrations are classified into categories:
- Garments
