Join needle felting artist Carolina Alles as she shows you around her studio and introduces you to some of her fun characters along the way
Carolina Alles, also known as “Caro Iindy” (@caroindy), is an expert needle felting artist and teacher from Argentina. When she isn’t looking up inspiration on Pinterest or sipping on matte, you’ll find her creating fun and whimsical felt characters, bringing them to life using only a needle and some wool, and designing their clothes and accessories.
Join her in this video as she gives us a sneak peak at her life, studio, and needle work.
We find Caro Indy at her home in Mexico, where she moved to 10 years ago, surrounded by lush and peaceful countryside. The walls of her workshop are lined with shelves of toys, dolls, and other fun figurines, including her own designs, lending the space an offbeat and quirky touch. “I love bringing together all different kinds of things, some old, some new, my own work…” she says fondly, showing us around. It is here that she spends her days creating delightful felt animal figures, and she stops to show us how by deftly making a possum out of nothing more than some pieces of wool and a needle.
The craft of needle felting involves taking a piece of wool and using a special type of needle to poke, shape, and sculpt the material into your chosen form. It is ideal for creating characters full of amazing personality, especially small animal figures, as the finish of the wool gives the effect of an animal’s fur. You can also create other objects such as ornaments and decorations - Caro Indy also likes to make accessories and clothes for her characters - and while it may look complicated, your most important tool is your imagination!

You can have fun creating your own original characters full of personality and expression, and make them unique, handmade clothing, by following one of Caro Indy’s Domestika courses, “Needle Felting: Creation of Characters with Needle and Thread” or “Confection of Miniature Clothing”.
