Domestika Diary: Emillie Ferris
Embroidery artist Emillie Ferris talks to us about her daily habits and creative routines in this Domestika Diary
Emillie Ferris (@emillieferris) fell in love with embroidery in 2013 and hasn’t stopped sewing since. She’s inspired by nature and the seasons, and uses the needle painting technique to create incredibly realistic embroidery.
This Domestika Diary gives you a better insight into this embroidery artist’s creative process. Watch the video and find out more:
Emillie lives in Warwickshire, a county in the West Midlands of England. If at all possible, she starts her day with a walk. The pandemic has taught her how we need to prioritize our mental health and well-being.
Walking in the countryside allows Emillie to reconnect with herself as she listens to music and enjoys the beauty of the landscape. Nature is one of her greatest sources of inspiration, as you can see in her realistic embroideries of animals and plants.

The embroiderer is a needle painting master. This technique allows you to create realistic effects with a single strand of thread. Consequently, you can use your needle like a paintbrush, and build beautiful areas of shading, magical details and fluid stitches that allow this kind of embroidery to resemble a painting.
Depending on the season, Emillie combines her sewing with designing embroidery kits she sells to customers all over the world on her website. “I love spreading my love of embroidery around the world,“ she enthuses.
She doesn’t stick to standard office hours, her work is simply part of life. “You become this kind of artist/business woman in which work and life are all part of the same thing,“ she says. One of her favorite moments of the day is embroidering while watching her favorite series before dinner.

“More than an art form, embroidery is a way of life for me,” Emillie concludes. She wants to spend the rest of her days embroidering and creating incredible, inspirational designs.
