Why You Should Use Mockups in Your Stationery Design

The importance of using mockups when presenting your stationery and brand designs

Once you have designed all the elements commissioned, you will need to present them to your client. This is one of the main stages of the project, as the client gets to see the image you have created to represent them to their potential customers and the general public for the first time.

Laura Méndez, creative director and founder of design studio Menta Branding (@mentabranding), believes that mockups are an essential element in your branding presentations and stationery designs and tells us why we should always use them.

The show-stopping factor

A mockup will undoubtedly make your client fall in love more easily with the design you are about to present them. Mockups are like a bridge between what you were imagining when designing and the final product.

By showing the design applied to a business card, the paper used to wrap their products, or their invoice letterhead—even if it is a model—will make it easier for the client to imagine your designs once applied to the real thing. At this stage, they are probably less likely to suggest any changes.

Selling the idea

Besides including the development of your branding design project and other elements that the client needs to consider, such as typography, mockups help dress up the presentation. You can sell an idea or a design more quickly when they look the part. Presenting them as a mockup is ideal for achieving the task.

Defining the final touches

When dealing with designs applied to stationery items, mockups also help start the conversation with the client about the types of paper that best fit the project’s requirements and the finishes to help the brand stand out.
Your ideas are best shown and understood when seen applied to a mockup.
