The Narrative Visuals of Siames Escalante

Discover the graphic world of the Mexican illustrator and designer

Siamés Escalante (@siamesescalante) is from Merida, Mexico. Her illustration style is characterized by innocence and melancholy, with each piece telling a fantastical tale.

Siamés recalls developing a love for illustration when she was a child; she was introverted and spent a lot of her time entertaining herself with coloring books and children’s books.

When she was little, Siamés participated in a competition that was run by a brand. They had asked participants to create a story based on their products. She immersed herself in the process but her entry was submitted too late to be considered. However, the organizers liked her idea so much that they awarded her an honorary mention. It was then that she knew she wanted to pursue illustration and, in particular, dedicate herself to telling stories with images.

After studying graphic design, she began to immerse herself in the world of illustration. She worked as a background colorist for the Hero Pets comics by Dark Horse, as well as on character design for Luis Ramírez’s short film, Biósfera.

She has also illustrated children’s books. In 2019, she completed an intensive course on visual narrative and illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Afterward, she focused more on art and had her work exhibited in international galleries.

As an illustrator, she has worked with brands such as Vans, Izzo, Disney, and Gigantic Brewing. Now, she has returned to her early love of illustrating children’s books, as well as working on other books and commercial projects. As part of her project, Umiiland, she also designs products that she sells online and has started to immerse herself in the world of tattoos.
