Domestika Talks: Santiago Carrasquilla
Santiago Carrasquilla, the visual artist, designer, and animator, talks about the most important stories and projects of his successful career
Santiago Carrasquilla is a designer, entertainer, and audiovisual producer born in Bucaramanga (Colombia) and currently living in the United States. After his graduation, he worked for Sagmeister & Walsh for three years as a designer, first, and then as art director.
In the following talk, recorded during Copa Domestika Colombia, Carrasquilla talks about his successful career, leading to one of the projects he is most proud of: his recent collaboration with Thom Yorke creating music loops for Spotify.
Working with the Radiohead singer had always been one of Carrasquilla’s personal and professional dreams and, during this talk, he explained how all his previous projects ended up pushing him towards that goal. In all of them, he didn't only learn new professional skills but also new ways of understanding himself as a creative and as a person.
Starting with the time he spent at the New York School of Visual Arts, the designer reviews the highlights of his career. From the clever way in which he presented himself to the design studio Sagmeister & Walsh, -which convinced them to give him an opportunity-, to some of the most interesting works of his career. In all of his projects, Carrasquilla shows his passion for combining both attractive and experimental design, a mix that allows him to build a strong personal contemporary look.

In his short but valuable stint at Sagmeister, Carrasquilla has managed to develop his own unique style and to approach projects from both aesthetic and conceptual perspectives. He currently directs Art Camp, a studio involved in audiovisual projects for artists such as U2 and Thom Yorke, among many others.
