Salome – Royal Opera House London 2018
For the brief I chose the directors vision two. The brief asked me to convey Salome, being a beautiful princess who finds herself caught, like a bird in a cage, in an oppressive regime run by a tyrannical ruler. She cannot escape or act independently. Neither her cantankerous, lecherous step-father king Herod nor her mother offer her comfort or protection.
I chose to translate this story using art direction and photography to focus on the storytelling. I decided to use a low key (low light) shoot to achieve the forms, shapes and movement to underline the constant potential for danger, brutality and the always presiding tension that exists within dictatorships.
The poster design was joint winner at the Northwest Regional College and went forward for the final judging in London.
