La terra di sotto, by photographer Luca Quagliato and journalist Luca Rinaldi, tells of a journey that lasted a few years along the Highway A4, from Turin to Venice, crossing the entire Po' Valley region from East to West. Behind the apparent monotony of this flat landscape, which has hosted a bulimic industrial development since the 1960s, are hidden many tragic stories of environmental pollution. After decades of illegal waste trafficking and unstoppable industrial pollution, virtuous northern Italy begins to realize the environmental and health impact of this disastrous season. The tangible consequences of illegal landfills, abandoned industrial sites begin to emerge, although they are still largely invisible. Beneath the ground.
La terra di sotto mixes contributions from various disciplines: photography, cartography, architecture, geography, environmental legislation, up to investigative journalism. The research group aims at telling, documenting, collecting stories and interpreting data regarding the many environmental criticalities that daily impact on a vast territory, populated by millions of people.
