Interview With Ana Porta, 3D Illustrator Winner of Domestika Scholarships 2018
One of our 2018 winners tells us how the 50 free courses influenced her work
Ana Porta (@anaporta_) is a Spanish graphic designer and 3D illustrator who specializes in branding. Thanks to the striking personality of her work, which has led her to collaborate on brilliant projects and having work published in The Washington Post, she was one of the winners of our Domestika Scholarships in 2018. She was granted access to 50 courses to develop her skills and train in creative areas of her choosing. We talked to her about how she used her prize and how it helped her evolve her career since then.
Find out what benefits the opportunity to win a Domestika Scholarship—now in its third edition—can bring to a creative’s work.
Hello, Ana, tell us everything about yourself. What do you do? What is your specialty?
At the moment, I am working as a freelance designer, mainly creating 3D illustrations. I also do graphic design, but what I like most doing is branding. I work remotely for Huesca, and I really enjoy it.
How many Domestika courses have you completed?
I completed 20 courses and I have the other 30 in the pipeline. I completed Creation of 3D Miniature Worlds with Procreate and Cinema 4D by Santiago Moriv (@santiagomoriv), and others, such as Pinterest Business as a Marketing Tool by Mercedes Valgañón (@heymercedes).
What do you like most about the courses?
I like the way they outline the themes. They focus on real stuff and are not too long, making them easy to understand and complete.
What is your takeaway from Domestika Scholarships? Have you discovered any new techniques?
The amount of stuff you can do is amazing. I particularly liked to be able to discover the analog side of design in courses such as Manual Printing for Photopolymer Stamps, by Fábrica de Texturas (@fabricadetexturas). I have always focused on digital art, and exploring courses such as screen printing, bookbinding, and watercolor has been a dream.
Did any particular teacher stand out for you?
I loved Zigor Samaniego’s courses (@zigor) 3D Animation for Non Animators with Cinema 4D, 3D Lettering with Cinema 4D and Redshift, Creation of Characters with ZBrush and Cinema 4D. They were the first ones I took and they motivated me to get on to 3D more seriously.
Bernat Casasnovas (@bernatinmotion), who teaches the course Clothing Design with Marvelous Designer was also one of my favorites. He is so engaging and knowledgeable.
What are you working on at the moment?
I have just completed a couple of jobs for McDonald's and Cabify, through the international agency TBWA. And now I am ready to get myself organized and focus on some personal projects I have in mind.
Why would you recommend signing up to Domestika Scholarships?
I think it is a great opportunity and the prize is fantastic. When I signed up I thought I would have no chance, given the standard of people in the community, but there you have it!
